Sevilla rocked as Kone gets season KO

Sevilla forward Arouna Kone is expected to miss most of the forthcoming season after picking up a serious knee injury while on international duty with the Ivory Coast.

The 24-year-old was forced out of his country's 2-1 friendly win over Guinea in Paris on Wednesday after 10 minutes and taken to hospital where tests confirmed the player had torn the cruciate ligament and meniscus in his left knee.

The Spanish club confirmed the injury on their website, while also announcing Kone will undergo further tests by Sevilla team doctors to assess the best possible treatment.

A statement on Sevilla's website read: 'Arouna Kone has suffered a serious break in the left knee known as a triad injury (damage to to the cruciate ligament and both meniscus).

'The player arrived in Seville on Thursday, where he was met by the club's professional football co-ordinator, Pablo Alfaro.

'Now the Sevilla doctors will carry out new tests on the player's knee to confirm the initial diagnosis and decide how and when to operate, as surgery is practically inevitable with this type of injury, as is a long period on the sidelines.'

While the length of the lay off has not yet been confirmed, reports in the Spanish media suggest Kone will not feature for the next six to eight months.

Kone joined Sevilla from PSV Eindhoven last year for a club record fee of 12million euros, but made just seven starts in La Liga, scoring only once.
