Sevilla striker Kone suffers serious knee injury
MADRID, Aug 21 (Reuters) - Sevilla's Ivory Coast striker Arouna Kone is expected to miss most of the forthcoming season after sustaining a serious knee injury while on international duty.
The 24-year-old tore the cruciate ligament and meniscus in his left knee in the 10th minute of his country's 2-1 friendly victory over Guinea in Paris on Wednesday, the club said on their website.
Sevilla said the striker was expected to return to Spain on Thursday and would undergo further medical examination to assess when he should undergo surgery.
Kone joined Sevilla from PSV Eindhoven last August for a club record fee of 12 million euros ($17.78 million) but had a disappointing first season, making the starting line-up in the league on just seven occasions and scoring one goal.
