WASHINGTON -- Luciano Emilio scored twice to lead D.C. United to a 3-1 victory over defending champion New England Revolution in the semifinals of the U.S. Open Cup on Tuesday night.
The United advanced to the tournament's championship game for the first time since 1997. They will host the Sept. 3 final against the Charleston Battery, a team from the second-tier United Soccer Leagues First Division, who edged the Seattle Sounders in a penalty shootout in the other semifinal.
Emilio scored in the fourth and 81st minutes, and Jaime Moreno netted a goal in the 48th for United, who had little time to prepare for the game following their MLS road loss at New York on Sunday.
Joe Germanese scored in the 34th minute for the Revolution, who played the final 19 minutes with 10 men after Wells Thompson was ejected for a second yellow card.
