Chalme: Lyon clash nothing but a warm-up

Bordeaux defender Matthieu Chalme maintains his team are treating the Trophee des Champions clash against Lyon as nothing more than a 'preparation match' for the start of the new Ligue 1 campaign.

Lyon visit the Stade Chaban-Delmas on Saturday for the season's traditional curtain-raiser, looking to claim their seventh successive title.

Bordeaux, who finished second in Ligue 1 last term, will be looking for revenge after losing twice to the league-and-cup winners in the 2007/08 campaign.

However, Chalme does not see victory this weekend as a must, rather a chance for the squad to get some more game time under their belts before their Ligue 1 opener against Caen next Saturday.

'For us, it is a preparation match,' said the former Lille full-back.

'Between winning against Lyon and losing against Caen, I would choose the opposite. The most important thing is to take three points in the league.

'But if we can win it (the Trophee des Champions), we will go for it. The whole team is motivated.

'We lost two times to Lyon last season so we have the desire to end that sequence. We have the team to win this match.'

The contest will be the first real chance to gauge the two clubs' respective summer signings.

Bordeaux have brought in attacking players Yoan Gouffran and Yoann Gourcuff, as well as left-back Diego Placente.

Lyon have been much busier in the transfer market, the likes of Hugo Lloris, John Mensah, Jean Makoun, Ederson, Miralem Pjanic and Frederic Piquionne coming in.

Goalkeeper Lloris and central midfielder Makoun look to be certain starters this weekend.

Ederson (quadriceps) and Mensah (calf) are sidelined while Fred is nursing a knee injury.
