Bordeaux coach Laurent Blanc hopes to tie up the signing of Diego Placente at the start of next week.
The Argentinian left-back has passed a medical at Les Girondins but his club San Lorenzo are yet to release him from his contract, despite saying the player is free to leave.
Blanc reckons a deal could be reached over the next few days.
'We are at the discussion stage,' the former France defender told L'Equipe. 'It is difficult for things to happen at weekends. On Monday, there will be more things to say.'
Blanc finally settled on Placente, the former Bayer Leverkusen and Celta Vigo full-back, after a worldwide search for a player to fill the gap left by the departure of veteran David Jemmali.
Blanc had been linked with Toulouse's Jeremy Mathieu and Manchester United's Mikael Silvestre but plumped for Placente.
