Sven seeks Aguirre advice on La Liga Mexicans

Mexico coach Sven-Goran Eriksson has sought the advice of Atletico Madrid boss Javier Aguirre on Mexicans playing in the Primera Liga.

The Swede was keen to find out which Mexicans had particularly impressed Aguirre last season as he looks head to the third round of World Cup qualifying which gets under way in August.

Eriksson was able to meet up with Aguirre as Atletico are in Mexico for part of their pre-season preparations.

'We talked about football matters, about the guys playing in Europe. He asked me to tell him my point of view. He was very kind,' said Aguirre.

'We talked about European and Mexican football. He asked me about the players who were in Spain last year, how did they play, as I was involved in the tournament every day.'

Aguirre was impressed by Eriksson's eagerness to find out as much as possible about the Mexican players.

He said: 'He knew a little bit about me and I knew a little bit about him. I knew his career anyway.

'I can see he is very interested, moving around, worried, busy. It's his job and it's great.'

On Tuesday Eriksson sought advice from former Mexico coaches Manuel Lapuente and Ricardo Lavolpe.
