Dortmund beat Bayern to retain Super Cup
Borussia Dortmund defended their German Super Cup title with a 2-1 win over Bayern Munich on Wednesday night.
Dortmund were the winners of the Super Cup when it was last played in 1996, the season they went on to win the Champions League, and they defeated Bayern this time to clinch the trophy again, even though the competition is not being recognised by the German Football League (DFL) this year.
Jakub Blaszczykowski opened the scoring just shy of the half hour mark before Tomas Hajnal doubled the home side's lead minutes later.
Mehmet Ekeci gave Bayern hope in the 73rd minute, but Dortmund's lead was rarely in any doubt as they delighted almost 50,000 fans in the Westfalen Stadion.
