Fabiano on brink of contract extension

Brazil striker Luis Fabiano has revealed he is on the verge of signing a new deal at Sevilla.

The star previously hinted at a move away from the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan as his family felt unsettled following a robbery at their home, and he was heavily linked with Real Madrid.

However, on Wednesday he reassured Sevilla fans by confirming his intention to commit his future to the Andalusian club.

Fabiano, whose current deal runs out in 2009, was in a buoyant mood, having recently been granted Spanish nationality.

'I'm very eager to continue making history at Sevilla,' said Fabiano. 'I want to have another good season.

'At the moment I'm very happy. I'm Spanish, I'm going to renew (my contract), I'm calm and happy to do another great season.'

While the 27-year-old admitted receiving offers from other clubs, he insists he never entertained the idea of leaving Sevilla.

'I have been waiting for a couple of weeks now but we haven't completed it yet,' continued Fabiano. 'There is just one clause missing, but everything is very close and I think that before the end of the week everything will be sorted.

'I am very happy here. I had a bad moment when they robbed my house, but I never talked to (Sevilla president Jose Maria) Del Nido about leaving, always about renewing.

'Of course I had a couple of offers but the idea of leaving Sevilla never crossed my mind.'

Fabiano was not an instant hit when he moved from Porto in 2005 as he scored just seven goals in his first season.

However, the striker has improved dramatically and ended the last campaign with 34 goals in 44 matches, including 24 in the Primera Liga to finish second in the goalscoring charts.

Fabiano's goals helped Sevilla secure fifth place and the striker claims he craves team honours first and foremost, not individual glory.

'What is important is to play well and help the team,' he added. 'The goals come by themselves and if I am playing well they will come.

'My first objective is that Sevilla get into the Champions League and after that, sure, I'll try to be in the fight for the Pichichi (the trophy for top goalscorer).

'But it won't be easy because to be there for two successive years is very difficult.'
