Van der Vaart to stay at HSV for one more year

LANGENFELD, July 20 (Bundesliga) - Hamburg midfielder Rafael van der Vaart has admitted the coming season is likely to be his last at the club.

The Holland international, who is under contract at the HSV-Arena until 2010, has been strongly linked with a move to Real Madrid this summer.

The Dutchman has a clause in his contract which will allow him to leave Hamburg for just 1.5million euros in 12 months' time and he told Welt am Sonntag newspaper: 'That will be the time for me to take the next step in my career.

'I want to fulfil my dream of playing for one of the really biggest clubs in Europe and I have always been honest about that.'

Van der Vaart insists any move away from Hamburg will not happen before the end of next season.

'I am set to stay with HSV another season,' he said. 'We now have a team which is capable of achieving something.'

Asked if Madrid would be his preferred destination, Van der Vaart added: 'Which footballer would not like to play for Real Madrid?

'Anyone who doesn't understand that must live underground.'
