Friendly wrap: AJ returns in loss, Arsenal fight back

Striker Andrew Johnson completed 90 minutes on his return from a groin injury as Everton lost 4-2 to Cambridge United this afternoon.

England forward Johnson appeared to suffer no ill-effects while midfielder Mikel Arteta enjoyed 15 minutes on his return.

Youngster Lukas Jutkiewicz scored both Everton's goals but David Moyes' side are still looking for their first win of pre-season as an Andrew Parkinson double and goals from Robbie Wilmott and Mark Beesley secured the win for the home side.

A young Arsenal side featuring summer recruit Aaron Ramsey in his first start beat Barnet 2-1 at Underhill.

Ramsey was joined by first-term regulars Manuel Almunia, Gael Clichy, Justin Hoyte, Bacary Sagna, Denilson, Theo Walcott and Nicklas Bendtner.

Barnet had led at the break through Kenny Gillet's surprise opener. However, Jay Simpson and Dutch youngster Nacer Barazite both scored in the second half to turn the game in the Gunners' favour.

Reading began life without Dave Kitson with a 2-1 friendly win over MK Dons - but picked up an injury fear over Kevin Doyle.

Winger Jimmy Kebe opened the scoring in the 18th minute after a run and cross from former Fulham defender Liam Rosenior before Roberto Di Matteo's side equalised in the 25th minute through youngster Sam Baldock.

Leroy Lita was then brought off by Steve Coppell after he was booked for an off-the-ball incident and Doyle came on to replace him.

But the Republic of Ireland international lasted less than 20 minutes before he was brought off with an injury.

Stephen Hunt came on to replace him and scored the winner in the 65th minute after Kebe had played him in.

Rangers fell to defeat in the final match of their tour of northern Germany as Bundesliga side Schalke dominated a low-key encounter.

Mladen Krstajic headed the only goal half an hour into the game as Schalke controlled possession.

Substitute Andrius Velicka almost stole a draw for Walter Smith's men but he was denied his first Rangers goal by the woodwork.

Premier League newcomers West Brom suffered a 4-1 defeat by Cologne in Germany.

Tony Mowbray's side were 4-0 down before half-time through goals by Nemanja Vucicevic, Milivoje Novakovic, a Roman Bednar own goal and Fabrice Ehret.

Substitute Craig Beattie pulled back a consolation in the 76th minute.

A Sunderland reserve side beat Arbroath 3-1 in Scotland.

Hull drew 1-1 away to Belgian outfit Ostend as summer signing Geovanni scored for the Tigers.

The Brazilian scored 14 minutes in before Thor Laleman's equaliser on the hour.

Hull boss Phil Brown changed the entire line-up at half-time, with new recruits George Boateng and Bernard Mendy coming on at the break.
