Rooney junior signs up to be a Macc Lad

Macclesfield striker John Rooney has signed a new two-year deal with the League Two club. The 17-year-old - the younger brother of Manchester United ace Wayne - graduated from the youth team ranks at Moss Rose. Despite only being in his first year as a scholar, boss Keith Alexander was eager to retain his services. Youth team boss John Askey told the club's official website: 'John has come on leaps and bounds in the last year. 'He is still by no means a finished product but if he continues to progress the way he has done then he will score a lot of goals for the club. 'For his age he is very strong and he's now got the chance to work and train with the first team and hopefully show what he can do at a higher level.'
