Dube scores game-winner for Revs against Santos

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- Kheli Dube scored in the 70th minute and Matt Reis made two saves to record a shutout as the New England Revolution defeated Santos Laguna 1-0 in the opening match of SuperLiga Group B play Sunday night.

The Revolution moved to the top of Group B with three points.

New England's Shalrie Joseph had the first good chance in the 12th minute as Steve Ralston worked his way to the right end line before laying a pass off to the trailing Joseph, who shot high.

Reis was well positioned to deny Oribe Peralta?s point-blank header in the 35th minute.

In the 40th minute, Santos midfielder Juan Pablo Rodriguez was ejected for an elbow to the face of New England midfielder Sainey Nyassi.

Despite playing short-anded, Santos appeared to take the lead just before the halftime break, as the ball ended up in the back of the net following a free kick. However, the goal was ruled out for offside and the teams completed the first 45 minutes scoreless.

The Revolution broke the deadlock as Nyassi and Ralston teamed up to create the goal for Dube. Nyassi played a pass back to Ralston, who flicked a back-heel into the path of Dube, whose right-footed shot from near the penalty spot slipped inside the right post.

Los Guerreros' last chance to equalize came in the 77th minute, but Fernando Arce's free kick from 20 yards out curled just wide of the upper right corner.
