Chesterfield have moved a step closer to getting a new stadium after the town's Borough Council granted them planning permission.
The plans, which have been approved subject to conditions, were rubber stamped unanimously by the council following a meeting on Tuesday night.
The Spireites have been looking to move from their current home of Saltergate for some time and the 22-acre site on which the proposed new ground will be built was acquired by developer Wilson Bowden in late 2005.
The site is in the Whittington Moor area of the town and the land has already been partly prepared for the construction of the proposed 10,000 seater stadium as well as a supermarket.
Interest in the attending Tuesday's meeting, which lasted over three hours, was so great that anyone wishing to be present was required to have a ticket.
