Ajax have tabled a bid for Palmeiras defender Henrique Adriano Buss, according to the organisation which owns 80% of the player's transfer rights.
The Eredivisie side see the 21-year-old as the ideal successor to John Heitinga, who has joined Atletico Madrid.
And Andre Curry of Traffic told Brazilian newspaper Gazeta Esportiva: 'Ajax came to us and offered us eight million euros.
'That is so far the only concrete step to sign Henrique, that we received. We will now speak with Palmeiras.'
But Ajax look set to face competition from Barcelona for Henrique, who has played just five first-team games for Palmeiras.
The defender's agent, Marcos Malaquias, who has spoken with Barca's technical director Txiki Begiristain, said: 'Barcelona told us that they were very interested,
'It is still in an early phase and we must wait for the official offer which they have promised to make.'
