Thwaite joins Victory on loan deal
Melbourne Victory have signed Socceroos defender Michael Thwaite on a one-year loan deal from Norwegian club SK Brann.
Thwaite, 25, joins Brazilian Ney Fabiano De Oliveira, Billy Celeski and Tom Pondeljak as the Victory's key arrivals for the upcoming A-League season after they missed the playoffs last year.
Thwaite was included in Pim Verbeek's first Socceroos squad for the opening World Cup qualifier against Qatar in February but failed to make the final cut.
He joined Brann in January after ill-fated club stints in Romania and Poland.
"It's very pleasing to be able to bring another Socceroo home, albeit for only a short time at this stage," Victory football operations manager Gary Cole said.
"He's big, quick and will do a great job for us in defence."
Thwaite made his international debut against Jamaica in 2005.
He's likely to play his first matches for the Victory in trial games early next month.
