Vitesse turn to Westerhof as new manager

ARNHEM, June 12 (Eredivisie) - Hans Westerhof has signed a one-year contract to become the new coach of Vitesse Arnhem.

The 59-year-old former PSV Eindhoven and Ajax boss had been holding talks with the Eredivisie side since Friday.

And he revealed it was Vitesse's determination to get him as their coach which won him over.

'The persistent attitude that Vitesse showed is for me the most important thing,' Westerhof told the club's official website.

'They were enthusiastic, they have given me a realistic target and they really wanted me. That gave me a good feeling.

'The first feeling was super and I still have that feeling. I think it will be a great challenge at Vitesse.'

Westerhof was quick to brush side fears he was not fully committed to the club after signing just a one-year deal.

He added: 'That has nothing to do with Vitesse - I always do that, simply because I like my freedom.'

Westerhof, who also coached Groningen and Willem II, joins Vitesse after a spell in charge of Mexican side Necaxa.
