Raul absence baffles Peru skipper Solano
HUELVA, May 30 (Euro 2008) - Peru captain Nolberto Solano admits he cannot understand why Real Madrid striker Raul has been omitted from the Spain squad for this summer's European Championship.
Despite being his country's record goalscorer, Raul has been cast aside by Spain coach Luis Aragones since 2006 and is not part of his nation's 23-man squad for Euro 2008.
Solano, who is part of the Peru squad that will be facing Spain in a friendly in Huelva on Saturday, admits it is surprise to see Raul missing.
'For us it is incredible that Raul is not in the national team. He has been among the best players for a long time and his career has been impressive,' Solano said.
However, the West Ham winger believes Spain have enough firepower to cope without Raul, singling out Liverpool striker Fernando Torres and Valencia's David Villa as examples.
'There is no Raul, but Torres and Villa are also impressive. I follow La Liga from England and their football is very elegant. They will go far in the tournament,' he said in AS.
