Berger leaves Aston Villa for Sparta Prague
PRAGUE, May 29 (Reuters) - Czech midfielder Patrik Berger has joined Sparta Prague on a free transfer from Aston Villa, the Czech team said on their website on Thursday.
Sparta said the 34-year-old had signed a two-year contract with the club where he started in the youth team before leaving in 1991 to join local rivals Slavia on his first professional contract. Czech media had speculated he would return to Slavia.
The midfielder, who made eight league starts in the last three seasons for Villa, was expected to leave the club at the end of the season, especially after he upset the management by advising team mate Gareth Barry to move to Liverpool.
