Pachuca beats Saprissa to win Champions Cup

PACHUCA, Mexico -- Mexico's Pachuca won the CONCACAF Champions Cup for the second straight year, beating Costa Rica's Saprissa 2-1 on Wednesday night to secure a spot in the Club World Cup in Japan.

The two teams tied 1-1 in the first leg in Costa Rica.

Argentine midfielder Christian Gimenez opened the scoring for Pachuca in the second minute, knocking in a 22-yard shot off a cross from Colombian striker Luis Gabriel Rey.

Rey made it 2-0 in the 54th minute.

Jairo Arreola scored for Saprissa in injury time.

"We suffered in the end, you saw what happened, but this is a very competitive team," Pachuca coach Enrique Meza said.

Last year, Pachuca beat Chivas in penalty kicks. Pachuca also won in 2002.

Saprissa nearly tied it on Ronald Gomez's header in the 37th minute, but Colombian goalkeeper Miguel Calero made a spectacular save to prevent the goal.

"We are in the World Cup. Now we hope to do better," Calero said.
