Estudiantes, Lanus qualify in Libertadores
RIO DE JANEIRO, April 15 (Reuters) - Argentine sides Estudiantes and Lanus reached the last 16 of the Libertadores Cup by winning their final games in Group Two on Tuesday.
Estudiantes, inspired by Juan Sebastian Veron in midfield, beat Ecuador's Deportivo Cuenca 2-0 at home while Argentine champions Lanus won 2-1 away to Uruguay's Danubio.
Estudiantes topped the group with 11 points from six games, one ahead of their compatriots. Cuenca finished with six points and Danubio four.
Leandro Lazzaro volleyed three times former champions Estudiantes ahead in the 11th minute of their game in La Plata and Cuenca midfielder Polo Wila, under no real pressure, turned a cross into his own net in the 84th minute.
The visitors had Jimmy Bran sent off for a second bookable offence in the 77th minute.
Sebastian Blanco and Jose Sand scored twice in 11 minutes during the second half for Lanus, who are playing in the tournament for the first time, in Montevideo.
Cristian Bardaro's 87th minute consolation was too late for the Uruguayans.
