D.C. United eliminated by Pachuca in Champions Cup
WASHINGTON -- D.C. United was eliminated from the CONCACAF Champions Cup, scoring twice in the last five minutes to beat Pachuca 2-1 Wednesday night but losing its semifinal against the Mexican club on 3-2 aggregate.
Pachuca, the defending champion, will play the Houston Dynamo or Saprissa in the final starting April 22.
United, which lost at Pachuca 2-0 on April 1, fell behind when Damian Alvarez scored in the 76th minute.
Rod Dyachenko tied it in the 85th minute with a right-footed shot off a a cross from Fred, and Franco Niell scored five minutes later from the top of the penalty area off another pass from Fred.
Luciano Emilio had two good chances, one in each half. He fumbled a pass from Jaime Moreno just feet from an open goal, and later his header from seven yards was deflected by goalkeeper Miguel Calero with a loud slap.
United hasn't won a series against a Mexican club in the tournament in 10 years.
