Holland international Andre Ooijer has been told he will remain a Blackburn player for another year.
Ooijer, who will be 34 this summer, was out of contract at the end of this current campaign but the Lancashire club have invoked an option in his contract to extend the deal by 12 months.
Having spent nine seasons with PSV Eindhoven prior to his switch to Ewood Park in the summer of 2006, it took time for the defender to establish himself but some impressive displays this season have convinced manager Mark Hughes to act.
Chairman John Williams told the Lancashire Telegraph: 'We had until March 31 to exercise the option but we have decided to do it now because Andre has been brilliant for us.
'When we negotiated the original deal, we always felt that was something that we'd want to do and who is to say Andre won't be with us for many more years to come?'
