Serie A: Mutu's hot streak continues for Fiorentina

MILAN, Feb 17 (Reuters) - Romania striker Adrian Mutu sent Fiorentina back up to fourth with a stunning second-half strike which secured a 2-1 home win over Catania in Serie A on Sunday.

Serbian Zdravko Kuzmanovic headed the hosts in front before Catania equalised through Juan Manuel Vargas, only for Mutu to conjure up his 14th goal of the league campaign when he chested down the ball, burst forward and shot from 25 metres.

The Florence side move three points ahead of AC Milan, who had temporarily gone up to fourth on Saturday following a 0-0 draw at Parma.

Udinese are two behind Milan in sixth after Italy's Antonio Di Natale scored twice in a 3-1 win at second-to-bottom Reggina.

Seventh-placed Sampdoria are two points further back after forward Antonio Cassano again pressed his case for an Italy recall with a superb display in a 1-0 win over Genoa in the city derby.

His expert cross set up Christian Maggio for the 87th-minute winner after Genoa's Danilo had been dismissed.

Leaders Inter Milan went 11 points clear on Saturday after they beat Livorno 2-0 and second-placed AS Roma lost 1-0 at Juventus in third.

The top teams played a day earlier because of midweek Champions League commitments, putting some of Serie A's other clubs in the spotlight on Sunday.

As well as the entertaining Genoa derby, Sicily's Palermo hosted bottom side Cagliari in a battle of the island capitals.

The Sardinians dominated the early exchanges but Palermo triumphed 2-1 to record only their second win in nine matches.

Lazio forgot their stuttering form to seal a 3-0 win over Atalanta thanks to Tommaso Rocchi's two penalties while Empoli moved out of the relegation zone after a surprise 3-1 win at Napoli.

Siena are level on points with third-from-bottom Parma after a dour 0-0 draw at home to midtable Torino.
