Bruins add eight to incoming class

UCLA men's soccer coach Jorge Salcedo has signed seven standout players to national letters of intent. Joining the freshman class of 2008 will be midfielder/defender Chris Cummings (Chatsworth, CA/Crespi HS), midfielder Daren Flitcroft (Great Falls, VA/Langley HS), defender Oscar Reyes (Santa Ana, CA/Saddleback HS), midfielder/defender Andrew Rose (Tetbury, England/Wycliffe College), goalkeeper Joseph Scachetti (Torrance, CA/West Torrance HS), midfielder Christian Vazquez (Santa Barbara, CA/Santa Barbara HS) and defender Zach Zerrenner (Santa Barbara, CA/Santa Barbara HS). In addition, striker Fernando Monge (Bellevue, WA/Eastside Catholic HS) graduated from high school early to enroll at UCLA during this current Winter Quarter and will join the 2008 freshman class.

Cummings, Vazquez and Zerrenner are all members of the three-time national champion Real SoCal club team and the Region IV ODP team. Zerrenner scored the game-winning goal in the championship game last year. He, along with high school teammate Vazquez, is amongst the top players in the Santa Barbara area. Cummings is a standout for the U.S. U-17 national team, a 2007 NSCAA/adidas Boys Youth All-American and 2007 adidas/ESP camp participant.

"We are very excited to have this incoming class starting in the 2008 season," Salcedo said. "It's a well-rounded class of players that fill some of the needs from the previous team. These players represent some of the most talented players in Southern California and throughout the country. Andrew Rose, who is from England, becomes one of our first foreign players in recent years. His experience as the captain of the Bristol City youth team will be an invaluable asset to our group. This 2008 class is one that we're very excited about, and we look forward to having them on campus in August."
