Top clubs set for Coupe de France battles

At least four Ligue 1 sides will join the list of top-flight outfits on the Coupe de France scrapheap after this weekend's action in the last 32.

There are a quartet of all-Ligue 1 ties, the highlights being Monaco's visit to Marseille on Sunday and Saturday's Brittany derby between hosts Lorient and Rennes.

Bordeaux welcome Le Mans, also on Saturday, while Metz travel to play Strasbourg on Friday.

Lens, Toulouse, Caen, St Etienne and Valenciennes all bit the dust in the last 64, leaving it a very open competition this season.

A number of leading clubs will be looking to avoid banana skins, most notably Ligue 1 champions Lyon, who are away at amateur side Croix-de-Savoie in Sunday's other match.

Les Gones have not won the Coupe de France since 1973, and it is the only competition to have evaded the grasp of current president Jean-Michel Aulas.

Elsewhere, Paris St Germain and Lille go to Le Poire-s/vie and Lyon-la-Duchere, other amateur sides, while Ligue 1 high-fliers Nancy are also away, at Carquefou.

Bastia, who are fourth in the Ligue 2 table, will fancy their chances at home to top-flight strugglers Auxerre.

Holders Sochaux welcome Montpellier, of Ligue 2, while Nice must go to Angers.
