FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- Pat Noonan, who helped lead the New England Revolution to the MLS Cup game last season, has transferred to Norwegian Premier League club Aalesund FK.
Noonan, 27, bounced back from an injury that marred his 2006 season to score seven goals and make four assists last year. He also had an assist for the U.S. national team in a 2-0 exhibition victory over Sweden on Saturday.
The Revolution, who announced the transfer Thursday, did not pick up Noonan's option for 2008, and he was free to seek a contract outside of MLS.
Noonan scored 37 goals and had 29 assists in his five seasons with the Revolution, which drafted him in 2003. His best season was 2004, when he had 11 goals and eight assists.
Noonan will reunite with former Revolution goalkeeper Adin Brown at Aalesund.
Also Thursday, the Revolution said that defender Joe Franchino has re-signed. Terms were not disclosed.
Franchino, 31, is a 10-year MLS veteran entering his eighth full season in New England.
