Hughes wants to keep unsettled Savage

Blackburn manager Mark Hughes has confirmed there has been interest in Robbie Savage but insists he wants to keep the Rovers midfielder. Savage has struggled to hold down a regular first-team place this season and despite being available after suspension, the former Wales international was left out of the squad for Sunday's 2-1 win at Derby. Hughes admits Savage is unhappy being on the sidelines but has assured the 33-year-old he remains part of his plans at Ewood Park. 'There has been a lot of speculation,' said Hughes. 'A number of clubs have enquired about his situation and the situation is Robbie's contracted to Blackburn Rovers. 'He's not particularly happy at the moment because he's not an automatic choice in the team but that's the same for the vast majority of the players in my squad. 'So at the moment he's not in the team but he's very much a valued member of the squad and if I feel he's the right player for a certain game then he will play.' Benni McCarthy and Jason Roberts have also been linked with a move away from Ewood Park in the January transfer window, with Roberts having handed in a transfer request. Hughes is reluctant to lose either of the strikers and the Rovers boss has reiterated that he will only let anyone leave if it is in the best interests of the club. 'I don't allow players to leave if I feel it will weaken us or I'm not able to bring people in that will strengthen us,' he added. 'The situation with any of my players is that they're not allowed to leave unless I think Blackburn Rovers will progress as a club. That applies to Robbie, as it applies to all the other players as well.'
