Lehmann to decide Arsenal future in next week

Arsenal goalkeeper Jens Lehmann is still considering his future ahead of the January transfer window.

The Germany international lost his place to Manuel Almunia this season and knows he must gain first-team football if he is to represent his country at Euro 2008 next summer.

The chances of that being in north London decreased further when his Spanish replacement made a match-winning penalty save against Tottenham at the weekend, and Lehmann has now set himself a deadline.

'If I am going to switch clubs, then I would have to reach a decision by the start of January at the latest,' he said in an interview with Berlin's Tagesspiegel newspaper. 'That means in about a week.'

Lehmann believes there is interest from other clubs.

He said: 'I have heard something, but I cannot say anything concrete about it at the moment.'

Bundesliga side Wolfsburg are believed to be leading the chase for the 38-year-old and Lehmann admits there has been contact between the two clubs.

'Somebody from there has called Arsene Wenger,' he revealed.

'My lawyer has also spoken with people, but I cannot say which club they are from.

'Things keep moving, so it is hard to talk about it at the moment. I should know more in a week.'
