Eredivisie: Feyenoord beat NEC, Ajax upset

ROTTERDAM, Netherlands, Dec 23 (Reuters) - Jonathan de Guzman scored both goals as Feyenoord beat NEC Nijmegen 2-0 in the Dutch league on Sunday to leapfrog archrivals Ajax Amsterdam who suffered a stunning 2-1 defeat at Excelsior Rotterdam.

PSV Eindhoven, 4-1 winners over Utrecht on Saturday, are top with 33 points after 15 matches, one above Feyenoord and two above Ajax.

Canadian De Guzman opened the scoring for Feyenoord early in the second half from a pass by Andwele Slory. He sealed the win with his second goal after an hour.

In Rotterdam, Excelsior's first goal came after 31 seconds when Mitchell Pique grabbed his chance after Ajax defender Jurgen Colin failed to clear the ball.

Geert den Ouden doubled the lead three minutes into the second half, scoring from the rebound when goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg failed to clear a shot from Pique.

Hedwiges Maduro pulled one back for Ajax with 27 minutes remaining.

Excelsior climbed to 16th with 12 points after 16 matches, three behind 13th-placed VVV Venlo, who beat Vitesse Arnhem 2-0 with Nordin Amrabat on target twice in the second half while AZ Alkmaar drew 1-1 with Roda JC.

Yesterday, two goals from Kenneth Perez sent PSV Eindhoven top of the Dutch league on Saturday after a 4-1 home win over Utrecht.

Perez opened the scoring after 15 minutes following a blunder from Utrecht goalkeeper Franck Grandel.

Leroy George equalised shortly after the restart but goals from Lazovic and another from Perez within four minutes settled the match, while Danny Koevermans added a fourth with five minutes remaining.

PSV are top with 33 points after 15 matches, two above Ajax Amsterdam, who travel to Excelsior Rotterdam on Sunday. Feyenoord (29) are third and play away at NEC Nijmegen.

Fourth-placed Heerenveen, with 29 points after 16 matches, suffered a 2-1 home defeat against Twente Enschede.

Afonso Alves missed a 19th-minute spot kick but equalised shortly before the interval after Blaise N'Kufo opened the scoring for the visitors from the penalty spot.

Romano Denneboom struck 19 minutes into the second half to secure the points for Enschede.

Kwame Quansah put SC Heracles Almelo ahead against FC Groningen in the 11th minute.

But goals from Stefan Niljand and Koen Van Der Laakmeant the visitors secured all three points.
