Valencia freeze out Angulo, Canizares and Albelda

MADRID, Dec 19 (Reuters) - Spain midfielder Miguel Angel Angulo became the latest player to fall foul of Valencia coach Ronald Koeman after being told he would not appear for the club again this season.

'I was told today by the club's sporting director Miguel Angel Ruiz that Angulo will not be called up for the first team again this season,' the player's representative Jose Luis Tamargo told Radio Marca on Wednesday.

'This comes as a real shock and although I respect the decision of the coach I do not understand it. Angulo does not plan to leave the club and he will wait and see what happens.'

The decision came a day after fellow Spain midfielder David Albelda and goalkeeper Santiago Canizares were axed from the first team and told to look for another club.

Valencia president Juan Soler has given his backing to Dutchman Koeman, who took charge at the start of last month.

'The technical staff, the coach and sporting director have told the president it is vital to leave Canizares and Albelda out of the team,' vice president Enrique Lucas told the club's Web site (www.valenciacf.es).

'The president has accepted the coach's decision in the understanding that everyone's professional life comes to an end.'

Former Spain keeper Canizares, 38, has been with Valencia since 1998 while the 30-year-old Albelda, who has won 50 caps, graduated from the youth system.

'Santi and David have been two important players in the history of this club,' added Lucas. 'It is a painful decision and the president has been very hurt by it.'

Spain coach Luis Aragones said he was concerned the upheavals at Valencia, who provide more players for the national side than any other club, could have a negative impact on his team's Euro 2008 preparations.

'I'm worried the (Valencia) players are having problems and aren't in such good form as in recent months,' Aragones told the sports daily AS.

'I don't want to interfere with internal matters in a club or with the decisions made by a coach but I need to be aware of what is happening in the teams who provide players for the national side.'

Aragones said Albelda remained a key player for Spain.

'Albelda has always performed well for the national side and has played a defensive role in midfield that has always been important for the team,' he said.

Valencia team mates David Villa, Fernando Morientes, David Silva, Carlos Marchena, Raul Albiol and Joaquin have also featured in recent Spain squads.

Koeman's team have won only one of their eight matches since he took charge. They have been knocked out of the Champions League, dropped to seventh place in the Primera Liga and failed to score a goal in six games.
