Fulham: The Complete Record
Have you ever wanted to know the full detailed story of how Fulham Football Club began? Have you ever been with a group of friends and could not think who scored the winning goal in the second leg of the 1975 FA Cup semi-final against Birmingham City? Have you ever wanted to know about the greatest teams in the long history of Fulham? If your answer to any of the above is YES, then you must get your hands on Dennis Turner's 'Fulham: The Complete Record.'
The caption on the cover of the book says it all...every game, every scorer, every player and every attendance. Memorable matches, complete history, pen pictures, manager profiles, appearance records. In other words, this book has it all.
Having become a Fulham supporter at the turn of the 21st century, there is an awful lot I do not know about this great club. I have heard stories from long time supporters about the 1975 FA Cup run and the memorable wins to earn promotion, but I wanted to learn as much as I could about the history and background of this great club. Fortunately, I was finally able to get my hands on this book in which everything I ever wanted to know and more is in there.
Author Dennis Turner does an outstanding job organizing the book in a manner in which it is simple to follow and understand. From the beginnings of the club and the history of Craven Cottage to the great Fulham teams and a Century of Memorable matches, each chapter provides excellent insight and information into the club that I have never seen or read before.
In addition, Turner has chapters devoted to Fulham's Attendances, History of the Fulham Programme, Fulham's Managers, Fulham's League/Premiership Record Against Other Clubs, Summaries of Fulham's League Seasons, Fulham's League Records from 1903-Present and all of the Fulham player Records.
If there is a statistic you ever wanted to know it is more than likely in this book. If you ever wanted to stump a group of Fulham supporters with some historical trivia about the club, there is a really good chance you will find a good question in here to ask them.
Being the sports junkie and statistical geek, I thoroughly enjoyed paging through this book looking at where the team finished in the 1931-32 season and who the leading goalscorer was that season. In addition it was fun looking over all of the cup runs from Fulham and in particular the 1975 jaunt to Fulham's one and only final appearance at Wembley.
When it comes to the merits of author Dennis Turner, he is second to none when writing about Fulham Football Club. In addition to this book, Turner has written four other books about this great club along with fellow Fulham supporter Alex White. They are: "Fulham's Golden Years (A Pictorial Memoir 1958-1982)", "Cottage Chronicles: An Anecdotal History of Fulham", "Fulham Football Club: The official 125 year illustrated history", and finally the first version of "Fulham: A Complete Record 1879-1987."
As you can see Turner has plenty of knowledge and expertise when it comes to Fulham Football Club and he packs all of that into one book with "Fulham: A Complete Reocrd 1879-2007."
This book is a must have for ALL Fulham supporters young and old. Whether you are new to supporting the club or have been around for your entire lifetime, this book is one that should be owned by Fulham fans everywhere.
Having read it myself I can say that this is the best Fulham book I have read. It is loaded with facts, statistics and stories with everything you ever wanted to know about this great club and then some more. It is quite amazing to go back and think how much time and effort Turner put into making this book a realization. Major thumbs up to Turner for this fantastic book about the oldest and greatest club in London!
