Bangura appeal backed by FIFpro players union
Watford midfielder Al Bangura's appeal against his deportation to Sierra Leone has won the backing of FIFpro - the worldwide representative organisation for all professional players.
Bangura is contesting the decision and has been backed by Stephane Burchkalter, secretary general of FIFpro's African division.
He told Watford's official website, www.watfordfc.co.uk: 'Football must continue to play its historical part as an engine of social integration and we support Watford's appeal.
'It is not for us to contest the rules of a sovereign nation and federation but we are of course opposed to all forms of discrimination relating to the workplace.
'We are calling on all men of good will within the FA, FIFA and UEFA to look beyond the case of the football player and to see more closely the future of a man whose life could be shattered.
'We expect the English government to favour the spirit of the law rather than its letter so that Al Bangura's fundamental rights can be preserved.'
