Lyon's Govou out for revenge at Ibrox

Sidney Govou admits Lyon will be seeking revenge when they face Rangers in tonight's crucial Champions League match at Ibrox.

Rangers claimed a shock 3-0 win the last time the two clubs met in France back in October but, this time, the stakes are much higher.

A draw would be enough to see the Scots safely through to the last 16 of the tournament, while nothing less than a win is good enough for Lyon.

The French champions have improved considerably since the visit of Walter Smith's men and Govou believes this match is the ideal opportunity to make amends for that result.

'We must have motivation,' said the striker. 'We are looking for a different result from last time.

'We made a lot of mistakes in that game and we must try to make up for that. We hope to play better this time.

'Obviously this is an important match because we can qualify for the last 16 of the Champions League so there is quite a lot of pressure.'

But, according to Govou, the pressure is all on Rangers tonight as they take to the field in front of 50,000 expectant fans.

'I think they have more pressure than us,' he added. 'Playing away from home brings extra pressure but we don't really have anything to lose.'

A point would be enough for Rangers to join group winners Barcelona in the knockout phase but Govou insisted: 'They have the advantage of maybe getting a 0-0 scoreline but I don't think it really matters. It's not always easy to get a draw.'

While Rangers were granted a free weekend by the Scottish Premier League to prepare for the crunch Champions League match, Lyon failed in their own bid to postpone their league match and lost to Caen at the weekend.

'We would have preferred to have come here with a win but the Champions League is totally different,' said Govou.

'The atmosphere will be different and the game will be different. We know what we have to do.'

Lyon boss Alain Perrin was impressed by the decision to postpone Rangers' SPL match against Gretna and claimed they have an advantage heading into tonight's game as a result.

He said: 'Rangers are coming into the match with the best conditions possible to prepare because they managed to have their last match postponed.

'They have had better conditions than us because we had the match at Caen. They didn't have any injuries and that makes a difference.

'I saw it caused a lot of debate in Scotland but it shows the Scottish authorities have the desire to protect their teams.'
