The U.S. U-17 men's national team defeated Brazil, 2-0, at the Nike Friendlies in Bradenton, Fla., on Saturday, behind goals from midfielder Carlos Martinez and forward Stefan Jerome.
Martinez's goal, his second of the tournament, came from a cross by Joseph-Michael Gyau. The midfielders combined in the 27th minute, with Martinez to flicking the ball past the helpless Brazilian goalie.
Jerome sealed the win with an 80th-minute penalty. The goal was Jerome's second of the tournament as well.
Goalkeeper Earl Edwards contributed 10 saves to today's winning effort, as Wilmer Cabrera's young team staved off the Brazilians to earn the USA's first ever win over the South Americans at the Nike Friendlies.
