Waddle: Fans must give Allardyce time

Newcastle legend Chris Waddle has urged the club's fans to give under-fire boss Sam Allardyce time to turn things around. The Magpies' 3-1 reverse at Blackburn on Saturday was the club's fourth defeat in five games and leaves Allardyce's side in the bottom half of the Premier League table. There have been claims that senior players have voiced their concerns to the under-fire boss in recent weeks over tactics, training and plans to stay away from the north-east over Christmas. But Waddle, who started his illustrious career at St James' Park in 1980, feels everyone connected with the club needs to give their full support to the former Bolton boss if they are to progress. 'I feel for any manager at any club,' he told BBC Radio Five Live. 'Straight away he wasn't the public's choice so if the results are not great it's very easy for the fans to stamp their feet and clap their hands and say let's get a new man. 'Who are they going to get? Are they going to start again? 'You are just hoping for a quick remedy and it doesn't happen 'Just give him a chance. There's no way they are going to get relegated. 'This year it's about building and building. Add a few players in January hopefully and then see what happens.'
