Eredivisie: Ajax on top as PSV suffer defeat

ROTTERDAM, Netherlands, Nov 4 (Reuters) - Ajax Amsterdam registered a 4-2 victory against Roda JC Kerkrade to move top of the Dutch league on Sunday.

They have 24 points after 10 matches and are above Feyenoord on goal difference. PSV Eindhoven slipped to third on 23 points following a 2-1 defeat at Heerenveen on Saturday.

Klaas Jan Huntelaar scored from a George Ogararu cross midway through the first half to give Ajax the lead and Luis Suarez restored the advantage minutes before the interval after Bernard Lamah equalised for Roda.

Albert Luque made it 3-1 directly after the break but with 14 minutes remaining Anouar Hadouir pulled one back for Roda.

Huntelaar missed an 80th-minute penalty although team mate Dennis Rommedahl made it 4-2 in injury time.

Feyenoord struggled in the first half of their match against Graafschap Doetinchem, but sealed a 2-0 victory after the break.

Jonathan de Guzman headed home a fine cross from Tim de Cler before Roy Makaay added a penalty.

Twente Enschede beat neighbours Heracles Almelo 3-0 to move into fourth in the table on 18 points.

Romano Denneboom opened the scoring after 23 minutes, while Blaise N'Kufo and Orlando Engelaar struck in the final 10 to seal the victory.

Matthew Amoah scored 15 minutes before time to earn NAC Breda a 1-0 win at Utrecht.

Vitesse Arnhem and FC Gronigen played out a 0-0 draw.

Yesterday, leaders PSV Eindhoven slumped to their first Dutch league defeat of the season going down 2-1 at Heerenveen.

Danko Lazovic put PSV in front after 29 minutes before Danijel Pranjic set up Kristian Bak Nielsen for the equaliser three minutes later.

Heerenveen clinched victory when Miralem Sulejmani's 70th-minute cross was deflected into his own net by Jan Kromkamp at the near post.

Simon Cziommer, Kew Jaliens, Ari and Demy de Zeeuw were on target as AZ Alkmaar crushed fifth from bottom NEC Nijmegen 4-0.

Louis van Gaal coached 11th-placed Alkmaar from a wheelchair after he broke his leg and ankle on Friday night.

A last-minute free kick by Kees Luijckx sealed a 4-3 Rotterdam derby win for Excelsior over Sparta, who had Dele Adeleye sent off with 10 minutes left.

Sparta led three times through Yuri Rose, Darryl Roberts and Nourdin Boukhari but Geert den Ouden (twice) and Johan Voskamp kept hauling Excelsior level.
