Audax lose 24-match unbeaten record in Chile
RIO DE JANEIRO, Sept 27 (Reuters) - Audax Italiano lost a 24-match unbeaten record when they went down to a surprise 2-1 defeat against Deportes Concepcion in the Chilean championship on Wednesday.
Unfashionable Audax Italiano lost for the first time since April 15. Audax had since chalked up 24 games without loss in all competitions.
Paraguayan Jason Ibarrola gave Deportes an early lead but defender Juan Gonzalez equalised from a rebound in the 34th minute and Audax went on to squander a series of chances.
In the 75th minute, Daud Gazale pounced on a bad back pass by Carlos Garrido to score the winner.
Audax stayed top of Group Three in the Clausura championship with 23 points from 10 games.
Group Four leaders O'Higgins also lost their unbeaten record as they went down 1-0 to Palestino, where Diego Rivarola converted a 79th minute penalty.
Universidad Concepcion, who won 3-0 at Santiago Wanderers, are the only remaining unbeaten team in the competition.
LDU, leaders of the championship's second stage, beat local rivals El Nacional 2-0 to stay top with a Jofree Guerron header and a spectacular volley from teenager Israel Chango.
Hapless El Nacional hit the woodwork three times in between.
Second-placed Deportivo Quito piled on the misery for Barcelona, winning 4-0 with two long-range goals from Marcelo Palau and two penalties, converted by Edder Vaca and Pablo Palacios.
Barcelona, the country's most popular club, dropped to sixth after their third straight defeat and third match without scoring.
Second stage leaders Coronel Bolognesi won 1-0 at Melgar thanks to a late winner from Yancarlos Casas.
Sport Ancash beat Total Clean 1-0 by the same score to go second, three points behind, and Deportivo Municipal dropped to third as they lost to Alianza Lima, also by 1-0.
Wednesday's five games produced only six goals between them, half of them in Alianza Atletico's 3-0 win over Cienciano.
Cerro Porteno recovered from Saturday's defeat to arch-rivals Olimpia by thrashing Tacuary 5-1.
Walter Fretes opened the scoring from a free kick and two more goals from Cesar Ramirez gave them a 3-0 halftime lead.
Jorge Achucarro and Marcelo Estigarribia added another two in the second half. Hernan Perez scored Tacuary's consolation.
Cerro went place in the championship's second stage but are still six points adrift of leaders Libertad.
