Weber named as interim Cottbus coach
BERLIN, Sept 24 (Reuters) - Heiko Weber will take temporary charge of Energie Cottbus while a permanent replacement for coach Petrik Sander in found, the Bundesliga club said on Monday.
Cottbus, currently bottom of the table with only two points from six games, initially appointed Sander's assistant, Thomas Hossmang, as interim coach but he stepped down because of his close relationship with Sander, who was sacked on Sunday.
'We will continue the search for a suitable successor with the necessary speed, but we will not rush,' Manager Steffen Heidrich said on the club's Web site (www.fcenergie.de).
Weber, who previously coached the club's under-23 team, will be in charge when Cottbus play top of the table Bayern Munich on Wednesday if no replacement is found.
Sander was the first coach from Germany's top league to be sacked this season.
