Adebayor nets hat trick against Derby

LONDON -- Arsenal routed Derby 5-0 behind Emmanuel Adebayor's three goals Saturday to remain in first place in the Premier League.

Abou Diaby and Adebayor scored in the first half at Emirates Stadium. Adebayor then completed his hat trick with goals sandwiched around one by Cesc Fabregas. Fabregas has scored in his six straight games.

Arsenal has 16 points, four more than Liverpool, which missed a chance to put more pressure on the Gunners when it drew 0-0 against visiting Birmingham.

"The team means business," Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger said. "They are not there to be showoffs. They want to achieve something together."

Manchester City stayed in second place with a 3-3 tie at Fulham, although Manchester United or Chelsea could trim Arsenal's lead when they play each other Sunday.

A key save by American goalkeeper Marcus Hahnemann and a last-minute goal by midfielder James Harper earned Reading a 2-1 win over visiting Wigan. Sunderland gained a 2-2 tie at rival Middlesbrough when Liam Miller scored in the 89th minute.

Germany
BERLIN -- Hertha Berlin edged Borussia Dortmund 3-2 to take the lead in the Bundesliga, and Werder Bremen downed defending champion VfB Stuttgart 4-1.

Hertha Berlin moved a point ahead of Eintracht Frankfurt and favorite Bayern Munich, which plays Karlsruhe on Sunday.

Hugo Almeida set the pace in his first start for Bremen, scoring in the third and fourth minutes as the two teams combined for four goals in the first 15 minutes. It looked as if Stuttgart could turn the game around until Diego's 89th-minute deflected shot sealed Bremen's win.

"Both teams have a good football philosophy -- they aren't afraid to attack and we should be thankful," Bremen coach Thomas Schaaf said.

Stuttgart fell to 12th place while Bremen moved to seventh, two points off the lead.

Berlin took the Bundesliga lead for the first time since Oct. 1, 2006, and ended Dortmund's three-game winning streak, which included a 3-0 rout of Bremen last week.

Berlin's goals came from Marko Pantelic in the 43rd, Lucio in the 54th and Solomon Okoronkwo in the 76th. Mladen Petric scored for Dortmund in the 31st and 88th minutes.

Italy
MILAN, Italy -- Antonio Di Natale scored twice to help Udinese beat Reggina 2-0 in Serie A of the Italian league.

Di Natale chipped the ball past Reggina goalkeeper Andrea Campagnolo in the fifth minute and then hit a diagonal drive in the 61st. The forward also scored in Udinese's 1-0 win over Juventus last weekend.

Udinese has seven points after four games. Reggina is winless and has two points.

France
PARIS -- Daniel Niculae scored both goals to help Auxerre beat Marseille 2-0 in the French league.

The Romanian avoided an offside trap in the 20th minute, collecting a pass from Benoit Pedretti to slip the ball past goalkeeper Steve Mandanda. Niculae added a second goal five minutes later, rushing toward the near post to deflect in a cross by Kevin Lejeune from the left flank.

Marseille's hopes of contending for the title this season are fading, after only one victory in nine games.

Marseille tried to rally in the second half, but Djibril Cisse's powerful strike in the 53rd was turned away by Auxerre goalkeeper Olivier Sorin.
