Brazilian spitter banned for 4 months

RIO DE JANEIRO, Sept 14 (Reuters) - Brazilian championship leaders Sao Paulo will be without midfielder Hugo for the rest of the tournament after he was banned for 120 days on Friday for spitting at an opponent. Brazilian football's disciplinary tribunal imposed the ban after finding the player guilty of ungentlemanly conduct during the 6-0 win over Parana, when he spat at defender Daniel Marques. 'I'm sure Sao Paulo will be champions but it hurts that I won't take part in the remaining games,' he told reporters after the hearing. 'It's a heavy penalty but I respect the tribunal's decision.' After the incident, Hugo wept during a media conference and said he had been given a ticking off by his father over the incident. Sao Paulo, the defending champions, have 54 points from 25 games and are nine clear of second-placed Cruzeiro with 13 matches to play. They have conceded only seven goals this season and none in their last nine games. The championship ends in December.
