Fulham to rival Rangers for Stefanovic signature

Rangers have been warned they could face competition from Fulham if they follow up their interest in Portsmouth defender Dejan Stefanovic.

Pompey manager Harry Redknapp will reluctantly let Stefanovic leave Fratton Park, where the 32-year-old has become a fringe player after four years as a regular.

Redknapp's Rangers counterpart Walter Smith last week confirmed Stefanovic is among the players he is keen to bring to Ibrox, and the Light Blues boss has made it a priority to strengthen his defence before the transfer window closes on Friday.

Redknapp believes Serbian Stefanovic, who can play at left-back or in central defence, would be a fine addition for any club.

And he claims a good contract offer could be enough to lure Stefanovic away. Rangers, unlike Fulham and Portsmouth, can also offer Champions League football.

'I think Fulham want him,' said Redknapp. 'Obviously Glasgow Rangers could come in as well.

'You'd take him all day long because he's a special character.'

Redknapp told Sky Sports News: 'I've got all the time in the world for him and I'd like him to stay.

'But if someone doubles his wages, and makes him a good offer, gives him a bit of security, and he fancies going, then I'd wish him well.

'When people give you the kind of service that he's given me. I wouldn't want to stand in his way if that's what he wants.'
