Lower the price Pompey

On Tuesday night Pompey comfortably beat Leeds United to cruise through to the third round of the League Cup, or Carling Cup to give it its sponsored name. What was very disappointing was the crowd, just 8500 souls turned up to see a top ten Premiership side packed full of Internationals. Why was this?

Well, it seems the problem is two fold.

Firstly, the pricing. An Adult ticket was £25 and concessions for kids seemed to be confused, it should have been £10 but I know a couple of people that got charged full price.

Secondly the ticketing has been a complete farce since the start of the season. Pompey have installed a new ticketing system that, frankly, is a load of rubbish and ticketing staff have to work long hours to sort out the electronic mess. Even with a low crowd, people who bought tickets still couldn't get in after kick-off, which is utterly ridiculous.

I warned the club at the end of last season, via a letter, when there was no reduction in Season Ticket prices, that the limit had been reached as to the depth of fans pockets. Tuesday night proved it.

I, and many regular home and away travellers, just couldn't be bothered to go, because it was nigh on impossible to get a ticket by any other means than physically visiting the club ticket office.

After the great advances on the playing side and with the old ground, it's disappointing for me to have to criticise the club, but the start to the new season has been tainted by the problems in the ticket office.

If we get drawn at home again in the next round of the League Cup, I hope the club see sense and charge £10 a ticket across the board, then we'll see 20,000 fans thronging to Fratton Park to cheer on the team. I think the club owe us quite frankly.

NUGENT OFF?

I was incredulous when I saw Harry smirking on Sky Sports News last night. He was fielding questions about David Nugent being sold less than two months after being bought from Preston.

Redknapp looks like he has a deal brewing and might need some quick cash to fund it.

My money's on Defoe. Or Anleka. Blimey!
