Chelsea agrees terms to sign Belletti
LONDON -- Chelsea on Thursday agreed to sign Brazilian right-back Juliano Belletti from Barcelona.
The English club confirmed the deal in a brief statement on their Web site (www.chelseafc.com).
It said terms were agreed between the clubs and the transfer would be completed when Belletti, 31, accepted personal terms and passed a medical examination.
The fee is believed to be around 5.5 million euros.
Belletti joined Barcelona from Villarreal in 2004 and helped them to win league titles in 2005 and 2006.
He scored the decisive goal in Barcelona's 2-1 victory over Arsenal in the 2006 European Cup final in Paris, his only goal for the Catalans.
Belletti's move to Stamford Bridge may signal the end of Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho's pursuit of Sevilla's Brazilian full-back Dani Alves, 24.
Sevilla have rejected several offers from Chelsea.
Belletti lost his place in the Barcelona team last season following the arrival of Italian World Cup winner Gianluca Zambrotta. He made only 13 league appearances.
