Bolton's Diouf wants Champions League chance

Bolton striker El-Hadji Diouf has told the Trotters to sign five quality players - or let him leave for a club with Champions League ambitions.

The Senegal international claimed five clubs were keen to sign him but that Wanderers were over-valuing him with a £10million price tag.

He named UEFA Cup hopefuls Spurs, Scottish champions Celtic and French champions Lyon as three who wanted to prise him away from the Premier League's basement club.

He said: 'I have five clubs who want me but I don't want to go for going's sake. I want to go to somewhere where I will be happy.

'And Bolton want a lot of money for me. They are asking for £10million. If I want to go I have to talk to my president and my manager.

'If I go I want to play for a bigger club. I want to play in the Champions League or with a club that wants to be there next season.'

Bolton have lost all three Premier League fixtures under new boss Sammy Lee, who took over once Sam Allardyce resigned at the end of last season before moving to Newcastle.

Speculation also surrounds the future of Nicolas Anelka, Bolton's other high-profile forward, who has also been valued at £10million.

Diouf made it clear he would only have a long-term future at the Reebok Stadium if the club spent heavily rather than cashing in on its best players.

He said: 'If Nicolas goes I will be very disappointed. We need to keep Nico as for three years we have been doing very well. We need to go up to the next level and keep our good players as well as buying some more.

'We need to have a big squad so we need to get five good players in. We need to find big players. We have missed Tal Ben Haim but we also need midfielders and strikers.

'This season we have the Carling Cup, the FA Cup and the UEFA Cup as well as the Premier League so we need a big squad.

'We don't have a big squad like last season and I'm not happy about that. I want to play in a good team.'

Diouf did have some words of encouragement for Bolton fans however.

He said: 'We are not happy to have made a start to the season like this but we got out of a similar position under Sam Allardyce two years ago. Now we have a new manager, things are not going well but we just have to keep working hard.

'Sammy Lee is a different guy but he's a good manager. We are not having much luck under him now.

'I have known him for a long time since he was head coach at Liverpool under Gerard Houllier. But for the first game he put me on the bench - I don't know why. When I came on I did well every time to prove I want to do well.'

Diouf was speaking ahead of Senegal's friendly with Ghana, which will be played in London on Tuesday night at Millwall.
