Chelsea target Alves looking for 'closure'

Sevilla full-back Daniel Alves has revealed he is no closer to joining Chelsea but remains 'hopeful for some closure on this subject.'

Alves has been linked with a move away from the Sanchez Pizjuan for over a year, with speculation intensifying recently that he was bound for Chelsea.

The dynamic, versatile right-sided Brazil international looked to be heading for Stamford Bridge last week until it emerged the clubs had yet to agree a fee.

Chelsea were expected to increase their offer last week after the Spanish club rejected an initial bid of £21.5million.

The player's agent had insisted he remained confident of the move going ahead but there have been no developments yet. After last night's Spanish Super Cup win over Real Madrid, Alves told Sevilla's website nothing has changed since last week.

'I am still not any closer to confirming my future,' he admitted.

'I am not suffering as a result of this confusion and whilst I am with Sevilla I will act professionally, however I am hopeful for some closure on this subject.

'I decided that I wanted to help the team win the Super Cup last night and this is why I decided to play. It was a crazy night with many goals, and we have once again shown what a great team we are.'

Juande Ramos' Copa del Rey winners overcame the Primera Liga champions 5-3 - 6-3 on aggregate - at the Bernabeu to clinch the first silverware of the Spanish season.

After the game Ramos said: 'Alves has played well.

'I don't think the reports on his future have affected him.'

'In any case, there are still some days left before we know where he will play.'

Alves is on international duty for Brazil this week, as the recent Copa America winners face Algeria in France on Wednesday.
