SFA chief fears for Scotland fans in France

Scottish Football Association chief executive Gordon Smith has expressed concerns over the safety of Scotland fans travelling to France for next month's European Championships qualifier.

The Scotland Supporters Club have been supplied with just 3,500 tickets but the Tartan Army have been able to purchase tickets in other areas of the Parc des Prince stadium through internet outlets.

Smith said: 'The authorities [UEFA] don't seem to be worried and they think that, with the Scottish supporters and their good reputation, the two sets of fans will get on fine.

'There is this Auld Alliance aspect that has come into it and they think this will prevail.

'Our security people did make the point to UEFA because they know there were tickets being sold in areas where fans will mingle.

'They [UEFA] said they don't feel it's a problem. If they don't see it as a problem, then there is not a lot you can do about it.'

Smith added: 'You never know what can happen. Suppose if the result goes our way, that could kick off a problem. We hope not.'
