Hildebrand aims to oust Canizares at Valencia
MADRID, July 4 (Reuters) - German international goalkeeper Timo Hildebrand said he will fight hard to oust the experienced Santiago Canizares after completing his move to Valencia on Wednesday.
'It will be difficult but I came here to fight it out and this is the sort of challenge I was looking for,' the former VfB Stuttgart keeper told a news conference after signing a three-year deal with his new club.
Canizares, 37, has been first-choice keeper at Valencia for the last nine seasons and has kept players of the calibre of Andres Palop and Ludovic Butelle out of the team during that time.
The 28-year-old Hildebrand arrives at Valencia on a free transfer after finishing his contract with German champions Stuttgart.
He holds the Bundesliga record for clean sheets, going 884 minutes without conceding a goal in the 2003-04 season to beat the previous record set by Oliver Kahn.
Valencia will play in the third qualifying round of the Champions League after finishing fourth in the Primera Liga last season.
