Gabon win to maintain faint Nations Cup hopes
ANTANANANRIVO, June 17 (Reuters) - Gabon kept alive their slender hopes of qualifying for the African Nations Cup finals with a 2-0 away win in Madagascar on Sunday.
But the Gabonese, coached by former French international Alain Giresse, will need to beat World Cup finalists Ivory Coast by six goals in Libreville in September to reach next year's finals in Ghana.
Sunday's win put Gabon three points behind Ivory Coast with one more match to be played in Group One. Ivory Coast beat Gabon 5-0 in Abidjan last year.
Georges Akiremy had Gabon ahead after 20 minutes and the visitors added one more in stoppage time at the end of the game from substitute Elvis Eva Kedi.
