Scunthorpe have turned down a bid from Sheffield Wednesday for striker Billy Sharp, while Preston are the latest club to show an interest.
The Owls have offered a reported £1.5million for Scunthorpe's prize asset, who finished the season as the country's leading scorer with 32 goals as the Iron won promotion to the Championship.
Scunthorpe manager Nigel Adkins said: 'There has been an interest from Sheffield Wednesday and Preston. Sheffield Wednesday have made a bid and we have turned it down.
'There is going to be a lot of speculation throughout the whole summer about Billy Sharp because he is a hot property. He is our player and we want him to stay at our football club.
'We have spoken to his agent and both he and Billy are well aware that we want him to stay. It is going to be a long summer, it is still early days, and the scenario is that this situation will run and run for the length of the summer.
'But Billy Sharp will not leave unless there is a move that is right for him and Scunthorpe United are reimbursed accordingly.'
