Domestic unrest sees Congo qualifer called off

JOHANNESBURG, March 25 (Reuters) - Sunday's African Nations Cup qualifier between Democratic Republic of Congo and Ethiopia in Kinshasa has been postponed after dozens of people died in two days of heavy fighting in the capital.

Diplomats expressed fears for Congo's fledgling democracy after hospital officials said more than 100 people were killed.

Government forces restored order to Kinshasa late on Friday after routing fighters loyal to defeated presidential candidate Jean-Pierre Bemba, who fled to safety in the South African embassy.

There was no indication from the Confederation of African Football on a new date for Sunday's Group 10 match.

Congo lead the table with four points from two games. Ethiopia are one point adrift in third place.
